Whats on my bed?

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

I thought this idea of recording whats on your bed to be a great idea. After all, we're all quilters and do have the best hobby in the world! Quilting.

This is my Grandma's Garden quilt that is on my bed most of the winter, its lined with wool batting, washing this is a production, but well worth it.

No, it was not handed down from a great granny or anything like that! I found this quilt on Ebay and purchased it for $25 including shipping from somewhere in the USA. So sad that someone didn't want it, its all hand sewn together and hand quilted.

Its a king size plus, so there is lots of quilts for everyone in the bed. This means, I don't hog the quilt anymore!:)

All the best,

Carli

  2. I think this is the nicest Grandmother's flowergarden quilt I've seen! the colors/fabrics are fabulous! hmmm, I guess I need bigger quilts to solve the bed hogging issues around here :)

    1. Allison, I think this beautiful quilt was made in Texas. I was told it was found at an estate sale at a ranch that retired to let a golf course be built. I'm not sure where in Texas this was. But I'm glad that I have it, because I love the cheddar color so much, its got to be one of my favorite colors to work with. Yes, bigger quilt eliminates the cover hogging!

  3. It reminds me of the sunflowers that grow so plentiful around here. Great ebay find!

  4. Hi, Carli. It's a pity that people don't appreciate the work that goes into creating quilts and other items. I'm thinking that it's because they've never made anything with their own hands--you know, the consumer hype that you have to be a shopper. Glad you saved your Grandmother's flower garden to be loved and respected. I have a simple machine-sewn quilt on my bed, but it's beginning to look faded and I might start adding wild things to it by hand (or maybe machine), which would be kind of fun.
And of course I just LUV your kitchen mosaics. So cool! Wish I could get back to my mosaics but I'm still visiting in the States.
    best, nadia

    1. Nadia,
I'm sure where ever you travel, you'll see patterns and new ideas will hang in your thoughts until you are home again. So good of you to drop by. Its spring here, just got back from a great walk to collect the burgundy colored dogwood shrub for more planting at our place. Brisk wind and sunny evening!
      All the best,
      Carli
